Spices one need for Indian cooking

Indian traditional cuisine means one has to branch out from their regular culinary routines. If one needs to do that then they must keep some essential spices handy in their kitchen.

Now where will one find those essential spices that are needed for regular Indian dishes? For that, one has to visit an Indian store where most of them are available and one can stock up. Before piling up spices from there one first needs to know what exactly the spices that they will need are.

Cumin

This spice carries a very fragrant and rich flavour which is also a bit bitter. One can use ground cumin or whole seeds of it and it completely depend on the texture and what flavour they want in their dish. This spice mainly adds a smoky kick to the dishes and it has a very potent flavour which one can sparingly add to the dishes to get better taste.

 Turmeric

This is a staple spice in almost every Indian cooking. This one is a pungent spice which can add a bit of bitterness to the dish. This is mainly added to the dish when it is boiling in the heat so that there is a pop of colour added to it. Apart from colour and taste, this particular spice is packed with tremendous health benefits. It has curcumin which has a lot of health benefits and can prevent complex diseases like cancer. 

Garam Masala

This particular spice adds a lot of taste to any Indian dish. They do come in a lot of variations and one can get a flavour depending on the blend that they are choosing to add to their dish. One can buy different combinations of this spice and if they want they can grind it in a mixer at home before adding it to the dish. The most common blend that one uses are cinnamon, cumin, cloves and coriander. This can add some spicy flavour to some snacking dishes as well if they are sprinkled on top.

Cinnamon

It is a very fragrant spice which is mainly used in savoury Indian dishes and in a lot of curries. One can buy ground cinnamon from grocery stores but one can also opt for the cinnamon sticks. The later is mainly the dried bark of the cinnamon tree.  One can toss them in a rice dish or a curry to get some rich aroma out of it. But once the cooking is done, one has to remove those sticks before serving.

Cloves

It is a very tiny spice and they are dried flowers which has a prominent punch of flavour. They can add a kick to the dish just like pepper. One can use clove to any Indian dish in order to add some strong fragrances to it. They are also used a lot to ease toothaches.

There are many other Indian spices that one can think of adding in their cooking and one can get them in a good Indian grocery store.
